Gateway to the the state of Michoacan

Casa Santiago is located across the lake from Patzcuaro between the villages of Ihuatzio and Cucuchucho. A 30 minute drive will take you through Tzintzuntzan and its world class craftspeople to visit the home and studio of Mexican artist Juan Torres in the pottery village of Capula.

The capital of Michoacan, Morelia, is only 45 minutes away as is the internationally famous town of Santa Clara del Cobre renowned for its copper work.

A 3 1/2 hour drive will get you to the Monarch Butterfly Reserve in the north of the state, or to the more remote indigenous villages of Ocumicho, Cocucho, Patamban, etc.

Casa Santiago is near the centre of avocado growing country as well as numerous other fruits and vegetables make sure to look for the orchards and farms along the roads. The local markets and roadside stands are filled each day with freshly picked produce. Just wash and enjoy.

There are many beautiful walks right out the door.

  • Kevin and Arminda share a wealth of knowledge of the Patzcuaor Lake region as well as the Micoachan state over all. They can plan very informative and inspiring guided day tours, local or further afield.
